Linebacker recruiting has been a major focus for the Longhorns on the trail in the last couple of weeks. Last week, Texas landed a commitment from one of its top in-state linebacker priorities in the 2025 class, Barnes.

That leaves the elite high-four-star McKinney (TX) product Riley Pettijohn as Texas's top remaining in-state linebacker priority in the 2025 class late this spring.

Pettijohn is making a return visit to Texas for the spring game this weekend for the first time since the first big Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 20. He has also visited Texas multiple times since last fall.

Texas has looked like the favorite among the top group of schools for Pettijohn since last summer. The Texas A&M Aggies and USC are also challenging the Longhorns lead in this recruitment this spring.

Texas, Texas A&M, and USC are the three schools Pettijohn is scheduled to officially visit this summer. Granted, the Texas A&M official visit is tentatively on the books for the weekend of June 21.

Playing in-state and in the SEC are big factors in this recruitment for Pettijohn. He and his family would like him to stay close to home. And the University of Texas is just a few hours down I-35 from McKinney in the DFW Metroplex.
