Texas and RB coach Tashard Choice kicked off running back recruiting in the 2025 class this spring with a commitment from the touted Tyler (TX) Chapel Hill four-star Rickey Stewart Jr. The former SMU Mustangs pledge Stewart committed to the Longhorns on April 6 during the Longhorn City Limits visit weekend.

Choice and the Longhorns are looking to take two running backs in the 2025 class. Early this offseason, it looked like high-four-star Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei running back Jordon Davison would be the top rusher in the Longhorns 2025 class.

But with the Ohio State Buckeyes holding the momentum in the race to land a commitment from Davison entering summer official visits, Choice and the Longhorns have ramped up communication with a blue-chip out-of-state RB target in the 2025 class recently.

Four-star Shreveport (LA) Calvary Baptist running back James Simon has started talking with Texas much more seriously after the LSU Tigers went in another direction with a second RB commit in their 2025 class this spring.

Simon is making his first visit to Texas in a few months for the spring game this weekend. He is reportedly one of the visiting recruits who is on commitment watch this weekend due to momentum picking up for the Longhorns in this recruitment of late.

Texas is also scheduled to host Simon for an official visit in late June.
