Ryan Niblett deserves a spot in the RB rotation

The injuries at running back has given more opportunities for rushers deeper down the depth chart in the rotation to get multiple live-game reps out of the backfield early this season. With the Longhorns up big in the second half against ULM, walk-on running back Colin Page and converted wide receiver Ryan Niblett provided the Longhorns' with effective production for the ground game to keep the chains moving late.

Page showed toughness running between the tackles in this game, as he posted an efficient six yards per carry while rushing for 60 yards on 10 attempts. Page also put up 41 yards after contact, which resulted in a team-high 4.1 yards after contact per attempt in this win over the Warhawks.

Niblett showed out for the Longhorns, generating positive plays and efficient gains out of the backfield on the ground and in the receiving game. He rushed for his first career touchdown for the Longhorns in the second half on a nice run to the outside for Texas's final score of the game to put up a 50-spot against ULM in the win.

Texas also effectively utilized Niblett's speed and reliable hands out of the backfield for a quality 11-yard gain on a short pass play where he was able to get out in space and make a couple of defenders miss to pick up the first down in plus territory for the offense.

It is also worth mentioning that Niblett has been a very willing and physical blocker on the half-dozen or so offensive snaps he's taken in run blocking and pass pro early this season.

Niblett knows what it takes to get downfield and block out in space and provide time for the quarterback in the pocket from his time playing in this offense at wideout and playing multiple spots on offense for his team in high school as a speedy skill weapon at Aldine Eisenhower.
