Savion Red, RB (Nevada)

Junior running back Savion Red has broken onto the scene as the top rusher for the Nevada Wolf Pack and first-year head coach Jeff Choate in the Mountain West Conference. Red joined a host of fellow former Longhorns players who followed Choate to Nevada last offseason in the portal.

Red made an immediate impact on Nevada's ground game, nearly scoring the game-winning touchdown in his first game in a Wolf Pack uniform in a near-upset of the SMU Mustangs in Week 1 for Choate's squad.

Red leads Nevada in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns after the season's first five weeks. He's rushed for over 100 yards and at least one touchdown in each of Nevada's pair of wins this season.

Jalen Catalon, S (UNLV)

As part of the effort to rejuvenate the safety position last offseason, Texas brought in a historic defensive back recruiting class that ranked No. 1 in the nation for 2024 for that position group for the Longhorns in the 247Sports Composite.

Texas lost two starters at safety among seniors to the portal last offseason. Jalen Catalon joined former Texas wide receivers coach Brennan Marion with the UNLV Rebels, and Jerrin Thompson transferred to the Auburn Tigers in the SEC.

Catalon has helped turn around a UNLV defense to give them a thumper and playmaker to command the secondary from the safety position this fall. UNLV has been one of the top G5 teams in the nation in the season's first five weeks. Catalon has been a huge part of UNLV's success out of the gates this season, including two wins over P4 schools in Houston and Kansas.

Before Week 6, Catalon ranked as the fifth-highest-graded safety in the FBS. He currently leads the FBS in interceptions, with four, along with one forced fumble this season for the Rebels' defense.
