In just a few weeks, Texas football will welcome seven summer enrollees to the program. Texas welcomes four high school signees from the 2024 class and three transfers.

This is a much smaller class of summer enrollees than we usually see the Longhorns welcome to campus in early June. Texas brought on a record number of early enrollees from the 2024 class via high school recruiting and the transfer portal for the spring semester back in January.

Texas would obviously much rather have as many new players in the program as possible on campus to compete in spring ball. However, some of these summer enrollees are key players who fill key positional needs via the portal and will make an immediate impact entering the 2024 season.

These seven summer enrollees for the Longhorns must hit the ground running soon after they arrived on campus early next month. The summer strength and conditioning program begins right after they arrive in Austin in early June.

And then, there's only a couple of months before the start of preseason camp in early August.

Here are four summer enrollees for the Longhorns bound to make an immediate impact entering the fall.

Michael Kern, P

Freshman Michael Kern could win the starting punter job with a good showing for Jeff Banks and the Longhorns in preseason camp. Kern is expected to compete for the first-team punter reps this fall as the only player at the position the Longhorns signed this offseason in the 2024 class.

It's a notable question mark for the Longhorns to see if Kern can handle the punting duties without a significant drop-off. Last season, super senior punter Ryan Sanborn stabilized the punting game for Banks and Co. He averaged over 45 yards per punt, ranking top three in the Big 12.

Kern ranked as the No. 4 punter nationally in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite.
