Texas has a smaller, but still impactful, group of enrollees arriving for the summer semester in early June.

Texas landed a commitment from arguably the top cornerback transfer this spring over the weekend. Former San Jose State Spartans sophomore transfer cornerback Jay'Vion Cole committed to Texas over the Auburn Tigers on May 5.

The Longhorns are getting their replacement for junior transfer cornerback Terrance Brooks.

Cole brings solid top-end speed and quality coverage skills to Texas's secondary. He's expected to immediately lock down a spot on the two-deep, likely at the field corner spot. Cole should push returning senior corner Gavin Holmes for the first-team reps at the field spot in preseason camp.

With Cole joining the fold, the Longhorns should have the top projected group of players on the two-deep set entering summer workouts and preseason camp. Cole and Holmes can compete for starting reps at field corner opposite sophomore Malik Muhammad at boundary.

Cole also brings more proven experience to a veteran-laden secondary for Texas entering the upcoming season in the SEC. Seniors are projected to start at field safety (Andrew Mukuba) and the star position (Jahdae Barron).

I would also be remiss if I didn't mention the standout returning sophomore at boundary safety, Derek Williams Jr.

The level of talent and depth Texas has in the secondary means there should be no excuses for there to be inconsistencies in pass coverage and covering the deep ball in the SEC this fall.
