After missing out on the portal sweepstakes for former TCU Horned Frogs junior transfer defensive tackle Damonic Williams last week, the addition of Bill Norton is even more important for Texas's defensive line depth.

The former Georgia Bulldogs and Arizona Wildcats grad transfer defensive tackle Norton brings proven experience and the ability to play over the football in the SEC for DL coach Kenny Baker. Norton can two-gap to help Texas's interior run defending while also providing some interior disruption for all these talented edge rushers to get after the opposing quarterback.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian pinpointed defensive line depth as a top concern for the Longhorns at the conclusion of spring ball.

"Obviously, the depth on the defensive line is not where we need it to be. Hopefully, we can address that. That’s a bit concerning."

New Texas co-DC/LB coach Johnny Nansen brought Norton and one other defensive tackle transfer, Tia Savea, with him from Arizona this offseason. Norton and Savea join fellow seniors Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton as the top four interior defensive linemen for Texas that are tasked with filling the void left by two NFL Draft departures in T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy II.

Norton will be heavily relied upon this upcoming season to help Texas be formidable up front, especially as an interior run stopper in the SEC week in and week out.
