Multiple key Texas football recruits from the 2025, 2026, and 2027 classes visited campus this weekend for the first-ever SEC game on the Forty Acres against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sep. 28. Texas had arguably it's most important group of visiting recruits during the month of September on the trail from the 2025, 2026, and 2027 classes for the Mississippi State game this weekend.

Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted a couple of flip targets, including a key blue-chip wide receiver recruit committed to another P4 school in the 2025 class this weekend against Mississippi State at DKR.

But the fact that this wasn't a huge group (at least compared to some of the visit weekends the Longhorns have coming up in October and November in the SEC) wasn't necessarily a bad thing for the Longhorns staff recruiting these key guys on campus. Texas was able to give more personalized attention after the game, especially with the coaching staff, to the visiting recruits for the first SEC game in Austin.

Texas wasn't firing on all cylinders coming out of the gates in this game. But redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning had a fantastic performance throughout the game to eventually lift the Longhorns to a sloppy and gritty 35-13 win over Mississippi State.

What matters is that Texas is 5-0 (1-0 SEC) entering the bye week. It has confidence and some things to work on for each side of the ball heading into the bye week before the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas on Oct. 12 against the Oklahoma Sooners.
