4 key recruits impressed by Texas's win vs. Mississippi St
Kevin Ford Jr., EDGE
Elite high-four-star Duncanville (TX) edge rusher Kevin Ford Jr. made his first gameday visit to Austin to see the Longhorns defeat Mississippi State in the SEC opener this weekend. Ford has been a frequent visitor on the Forty Acres since the start of the 2023 offseason. But this was his first time seeing the Longhorns in live-game action in the raucous environment at DKR this fall.
Ford told On3's Chad Simmons that he liked the experience of finally getting to witness a Texas game in person as a visitor at DKR this weekend. He was impressed by the performance of the Texas defense, especially along the front seven, while holding Mississippi State to 13 points in the win.
He specifically mentioned that the play of true freshman standout Texas edge rusher and his former teammate at Duncanville High School, Colin Simmons, caught his eye in this game. Simmons was a stud for the Longhorns' front seven, finishing up with a career-high seven tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Ford is scheduled to visit the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds for the Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 12 between the Longhorns and Sooners.
Dylan Berymon, DL
One of the top out-of-state defensive line prospects visiting campus this weekend for the Longhorns in the SEC opener against Mississippi State was the touted Monroe (LA) Ouachita Parish four-star Dylan Berymon. The blue-chip 2026 defensive tackle from Louisiana made his first gameday visit to DKR to see the Longhorns defeat Mississippi State this weekend.
This was also Berymon's first return trip to Texas since his unofficial visit for the Elite Camp back in early June, which is when the Longhorns officially offered him.
Berymond posted on social media after the gameday visit for the Mississippi State SEC opener at DKR this weekend that he had a "great gameday visit". Texas is battling the LSU Tigers in this recruitment for one of the top defensive line prospects from Louisiana early in the 2026 cycle.
