Jahdae Barron will be a Day 1 or 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft

Texas's secondary came up with two interceptions against Colorado State on Saturday. Senior defensive back Jahdae Barron had the first of two really nice interceptions by the Longhorns' secondary this weekend.

Barron got the read on a deep ball thrown by Colorado State sophomore quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and covered a lot of ground quickly to get the interception and pick up good yardage on a nice return for 30 yards. He had to run all the way over from the boundary spot after senior safety Andrew Mukuba took a bad angle in coverage against the Colorado State receiver.

I can't say I'm all that surprised to see Barron show this football IQ and athleticism and range to make this play on the ball and come up with the key pick that helped Texas extend its lead before halftime.

"Coach Joseph just wants me to kind of trust the process and make sure and understand what position I’m at, you know, and things like that, and understanding I’m not playing safety, I’m not playing nickel. So it’s different ways to go about business, being that corner and just being patient and having good IQ and seeing things."

The second interception was a beautiful catch in the back of the end zone by true freshman defensive back Wardell Mack, which sealed the shutout victory for the Longhorns on Saturday. Mack got his first career interception against Colorado State's backup quarterback, Jackson Brousseau.

Moreover, it didn't matter if Texas had Barron lining up at box safety, wide side corner, or nickel; he was stout in his pass coverage assignments. With how quick Barron looks and his ability to play multiple positions and know where to be to make plays on the ball, he's a prime candidate to lead Texas in interceptions and potentially be their top pass cover DB again this fall for the secondary.
