Arch Manning has definitively turned a corner with his progressions in this offense

Manning was one of the offensive MVPs of the win over Mississippi State in the SEC opener this weekend for the Longhorns. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns rode Arch's arm to set the tone on offense against Mississippi State.

He was hot coming out of the gates, completing 7-of-8 pass attempts for over 100 passing yards in the first quarter. Unfortunately, a combination of miscues (including turnovers) and costly penalties against Texas ruined any chances the Longhorns had of building a big lead on offense in the first half.

Nonetheless, Manning stuck with it and helped Texas get a good rhythm on offense later in the first half and early in the third quarter. At the end of the first half, Manning made an NFL-level throw while coming under pressure in the pocket to spark the Texas offense.

He found sophomore wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. on a beautiful deep-ball touchdown connection to get Texas a slightly-more comfortable 14-6 lead heading into the locker at halftime.

Manning showed no signs of slowing down in the second half. He was nearly flawless with his operational efficiency, leading Texas's offense with completions on all but one of his dozen pass attempts in the second half for over 120 yards and and one passing touchdowns.

This was truly a spectacular performance in multiple phases of the game for Manning. He showed the arm talent he brings along with his dual-threat athleticism at quarterback, rushing for over 30 yards and one score on the ground.

Add in the fact that he completed 26-of-31 pass attempts for his first-ever 300+ passing yard game of his career, and you get a very well-rounded effort for Manning leading Texas's offense in his second-ever start this weekend and his first SEC game.

Manning's performance in the win over Mississippi State made him the highest-graded FBS quarterback in Week 5.
