Matthew Golden is Quinn Ewers' favorite target in the receiving corps

Texas's receiving corps has shown to be at least six or seven players deep with talented playmakers who are going to be tough to keep off the field for Sarkisian and Chris Jackson in the SEC this season. The two-deep at wide receiver for the Longhorns this fall camp I'm willing to say looks as good as any in the SEC, if not the entire country in all of college football.

It's crazy to think that junior wide receiver Matthew Golden, super senior Silas Bolden, and true freshman Ryan Wingo have made the crazy plays and turned heads the way they have early in preseason camp. And they're working with the second-team offense in team drills and for at least half of the first fall scrimmage on Saturday afternoon this weekend.

Golden, Wingo, and Bolden all saw their positive performances in fall practice in the last couple of weeks rewarded with more of the reps and targets with the first-team offense late this week in practice and during the scrimmage this weekend. Golden, in particular, it sounds like had a really good connection with redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers in the scrimmage yesterday.

It's been huge for Ewers to build the chemistry and rapport with all of these talented new additions at wideout in the first half of preseason camp. Ewers has the command of the offense down in his third year as the starting quarterback and the ability to get the ball out on time and accurately to where it needs to go.

But Sarkisian's offensive scheme is very complicated and getting this level of understanding required to get the passing game to where it could be when it all clicks for these guys this fall was expected to be a work in progress for the first and second-team offenses this fall camp.

Three of the highlighting catches from the scrimmage reportedly came from Bolden, Wingo, and junior Isaiah Bond.

Ewers reportedly showed good chemistry in team drills and the first fall scrimmage this weekend with Bolden and Golden while they were working with the first-team offense yesterday. It sounds like Ewers specifically had a a great connection with Golden on a variety of different routes and timing throws in the scrimmage yesterday.

I feel confident in saying that the receiving corps and its cohesion and chemistry in the connection with Ewers and redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning are in a great spot a few weeks before the regular season opener and the start of SEC play. Sarkisian's ability to rotate this many wide receivers openly with the first and second-team offenses in the first fall scrimmage shows that this is an open and competitive battle for each target from Ewers and Manning with both units this fall.
