Jim Schlossnagle, Texas A&M head coach

One of the top potential candidates that has been mentioned in connection with the Texas job if it opens up this offseason is Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle. The two-time National Coach of the Year is in his third season as Texas A&M's head coach,.

Schlossnagle brought immediate success to College Station after taking over the program in 2022. He took over a Texas A&M program that was trending down in the late 2010s and early 2020s. Texas A&M hadn't made it out of regionals since 2017 before Schlossnagle was hired away from the TCU Horned Frogs entering the 2022 season.

After Schlossnagle took over in 2022, Texas A&M got its status as a national contender back almost immediately. Texas A&M won the SEC West Division crown in 2022 in Schlossnagle's first year. He also led the Aggies to the College World Series in his inaugural year for the first time since 2017.

Schlossnagle led the Aggies back to Omaha and the College World Series for the second time in the last three years in 2024. Texas A&M is now just a couple of wins away from the College World Series final.

During his two decades roughly at TCU, Schlossnagle became the winningest head coach in program history. He led TCU to its best era in program history, taking the Frogs to the College World Series five times in the 2010s.

Schlossnagle should be considered one of the potential home-run head coaching candidates for CDC and the Longhorns early this offseason. We should know how seriously Schlossnagle will consider the Texas coaching job once Texas A&M's run comes to an end in Omaha this postseason.
