Jay Johnson, LSU head coach

Orangebloods has reported multiple times in the last couple of weeks that Schlossnagle and LSU Tigers head coach Jay Johnson are two of the top candidates Texas could pursue to possibly replace Pierce this offseason.

While Schlossnagle and the Aggies are still alive in the postseason in Omaha for the College World Series, Johnson's Tigers were eliminated in regionals to bring their 2024 campaign to an end.

LSU hired Johnson after he spent six years with the Arizona Wildcats ahead of the 2022 season. He had the tough task of replacing legendary LSU head coach Paul Mainieri, who won multiple conference titles, had five CWS appearances, and won the 2009 National Championship with the Tigers.

Johnson hasn't missed a step since taking over as LSU's head coach. His crowning achievement was winning the National Championship over the SEC rival Florida Gators in 2023. LSU's seventh national championship which it won in 2023 moved the Tigers past Texas for the second-most titles of any college baseball program.

Johnson is commonly considered one of the top head coaches in college baseball. Not only did he win a title in 2023 at LSU, but he also led Arizona to the College World Series twice. Arizona was the College World Series runner-up in Johnson's first year as head coach in 2016. He also led them to the CWS and a Pac-12 regular season title in 2021.

If Texas does make a move to replace Pierce this offseason, Johnson would have to be considered one of the top candidates on CDC's shortlist.
