The recruitment of the elite high-four-star McKinney (TX) linebacker Riley Pettijohn hasn't been as clear as to which school is at the top of his list entering summer visits as Simon's pecking order.

The schools that have been mentioned often among those in consideration for Pettijohn entering summer official visits are the USC Trojans, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M, and Texas. It's also worth noting that the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles are still in the running to get official visits from Pettijohn this summer or in the fall.

Pettijohn is scheduled to officially visit Ohio State (May 31), USC (June 7), Texas (June 14), and Texas A&M (June 21) in the next couple of months.

Texas enters summer official visits as the presumed leader in the race to land a commitment from Pettijohn. While Pettijohn hasn't officially named his top group, Texas has been considered the favorite in most recent reports and crystal balls surrounding this recruitment.

Pete Kwiatkowski and Johnny Nansen have done a nice job building relationships with Pettijohn and his family. Pettijohn has felt like a major priority for the Longhorns among in-state linebackers for 2025.

Texas has already secured a commitment from one of its top two in-state linebacker priorities in the 2025 class this offseason, Dallas (TX) Skyline four-star Elijah "Bo" Barnes. Getting Pettijohn in the boat in this 2025 class is the next big task for the Longhorns defensive staff on the recruiting trail entering the summer.
