4 priority recruits trending to Texas entering summer visits

Texas can get the ball rolling on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class even before summer official visits begin in a few weeks.

Kelshaun Johnson, WR

One of the speediest playmakers the Longhorns have targeted among in-state wideouts in this class is the highly touted Hitchcock (TX) four-star Kelshaun Johnson. Texas likes the wirey frame and insane track speed and elusiveness that Johnson brings.

He would be an excellent fit in head coach Steve Sarkisian's offense at Texas, given his ability to turn on the burners after the catch to generate big plays in space.

Texas has long been considered the team to beat in this recruitment, going back to last offseason. Johnson reportedly (per 247Sports) considered committing to the Longhorns during in-person visits more than once in the last year or so.

Johnson has visited Texas more than any other school by a landslide since the start of the 2024 offseason. He visited Texas unofficially twice in the last three weeks of spring practice, including for the spring game at DKR on April 20.

But the Longhorns have a patient strategy with wide receiver recruiting in the 2025 class with how many guys they like at the position in and out-of-state entering summer visits.

I still think Texas is the favorite in this recruitment a few weeks out from Johnson's June official visits. Johnson is scheduled to officially visit the Texas Tech Red Raiders (June 7), Texas (June 14), and USC (June 21) this summer.
