On Saturday afternoon, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian wrapped up their first scrimmage of preseason camp on Aug. 10. Texas had the first two two fall scrimmages that will take place during preseason camp over the next couple of weeks.

Texas football comes up big on defense in the first scrimmage of preseason camp this weekend

The first fall scrimmage took place for the Longhorns inside of DKR and was closed to the media. Texas worked on some situational goal line and third down plays while getting live-tackling drills done to start this scrimmage on Aug. 10.

It sounds like the defense had one of its best days of preseason camp over the last couple of weeks during the first fall scrimmage. The first-team offense faced the second-team defense to start the scrimmage, and vice versa for the first-team defense and second-team offense.

To round out the scrimmage, Texas went with the ones against the ones and the second-team against the second-team in the second half. Texas also got the third-team offense facing the third-team defense in red zone work and the two-minute drill.

Here are four standouts from the first scrimmage of preseason camp for the Longhorns on Aug. 10.

Colin Page, RB

As expected, junior Jaydon Blue and sophomore Tre Wisner took the first and second-team reps at running back for the Longhorns' backfield in the fall scrimmage today. True freshmen Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark also mixed in the backfield rotation for the Longhorns behind Wisner and Blue.

After the four scholarship running backs, the rusher who reportedly had the best performance in this fall scrimmage was junior walk-on Colin Page. Orangebloods' Anwar Richardson reported after the scrimmage that Page had one of the best days of any Texas running back today.

Page reportedly had a few nice runs where he was very physical running between the tackles. He also had a short touchdown run for a few yards to get into the end zone.

It sounds like while it was a tough day for the running backs in general, not being able to find much room to run against a stout Texas defensive front with the first and second-team defenses, Page was a bright spot for the backfield.

As a side note, second-year linebacker Derion Gullette reportedly saw snaps on both sides of the ball, at linebacker and as a reserve running back for the Longhorns.
