Texas football is in the mix among the top schools in the recruitment for the highly touted four-star Manassas (VA) IMG Academy linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.

4-Star LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng considering Texas football among other national schools this summer

Brian Dohn of 247Sports reported on July 9th that Texas was among Owusu-Boateng's top group of five schools this summer. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan Wolverines, USC Trojans, and Florida Gators round out Owusu-Boateng's top five schools.

The most important part of this recruitment for the Longhorns is the ability to get Owusu-Boateng to Austin for an official visit this fall. Owusu-Boateng reportedly is waiting to decide until the fall after he takes all the official visits he wants to.

Owusu-Boateng has not yet visited Texas unofficially or officially. Texas is starting to make a bigger push in this recruitment with the need at linebacker growing for this cycle late this summer. It helps that the Longhorns have two IMG Academy players and former teammates of Owusu-Boateng's on the roster now, freshman running back Jerrick Gibson and freshman safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell.

"Knowing what they are telling me about Texas, and knowing they are in the SEC now, why not play in the SEC? It's the best ball. I plan on going on an OV to Texas. It is not confirmed yet, but it's being talked about."

Owusu-Boateng has already taken official visits to Notre Dame, Michigan, and USC, this summer. Florida and Texas are the two schools he still plans to visit this fall.

Texas does have a lot of ground to make up in this recruitment, though. It would be a tall task for the Longhorns to make up the necessary ground to become a serious player in the race to land a commitment from Owusu-Boateng, even if he does make it to Austin for an official visit this fall.
