Texas football's highest-rated commit in the 2025 recruiting class, the highly touted four-star Saraland (AL) quarterback KJ Lacey, was seen in attendance at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL, this weekend. Lacey's recruitment was a hot topic of conversation in the midst of the Senior Bowl festivities this weekend.

With Lacey still taking communicating with other schools that are interested in him on the recruiting trail, some SEC competitors are still working to chip away at his commitment to the Longhorns.

The two schools that have generated the most buzz in this recruitment lately that are trying to chip away at Lacey's commitment to Texas are the Auburn Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin made the trip to Saraland to visit Lacey at his high school last week. And there were various reports that said Lacey was scheduled to visit Oxford for Ole Miss's Junior Day this weekend.

Inside Texas reported this weekend (paid content) that Lacey canceled the visit to Oxford for Ole Miss's Junior Day "pretty quickly".

Lacey shines during QB Country camp at Senior Bowl

During the Senior Bowl festivities in Mobile this weekend, Lacey participated in the QB Country camp for high school quarterback prospects. He reportedly looked crisp with his footwork and throws during the QB Country camp.

A post on Twitter/X on Feb. 3 from 2028 Fort Myers (FL) Dunbar quarterback Austan Cristiaan said that he and Lacey were named the co-MVPs at QB Country NFL Draft Prep.

It's also worth mentioning from this report that Lacey "seems happy with his commitment" and that he is "eager to talk Texas".

While Lacey has remained in contact with other schools, he has reaffirmed his commitment to Texas multiple times in the last few months. He visited Texas a couple of weeks ago and is likely to be back on campus for a visit during the spring and/or early summer.
