4 takeaways from Steve Sarkisian's SEC media days presser
Sarkisian paying SEC opponents the respect they deserve
Respect was a big theme of the day for Sarkisian and the Longhorns at SEC Media Days on Wednesday. While Sarkisian knows that the challenge ahead in the inaugural season for Texas playing in the SEC in 2024 isn't too big for this team, he's still acknowledging the difficulty that comes with the weekly grind of playing in America's top college football conference.
"We’re going to have to go earn the respect of our opponents, opposing coaches, opposing fans, and that’s going to be on the forefront of what we do."
- Steve Sarkisian on the SEC
Texas's program is in great shape entering Year 4 under Sarkisian. It's hard to think the Longhorns could be in much better shape entering the first year of competition in the SEC on the gridiron for this fall.
"I think this team has been really, really focused. It’s been a long time coming for Texas to get back to this stage."
There is this sort of expectation from other big fan bases around the college football landscape that Texas is always going to be cocky and think the universe center's around us wherever we go in conference realignment or in the realm of that discussion.
All the hype and distractions aside, Texas has a very talented team that is still hungry to prove its spot as a national contender and to push for an SEC title in 2024.
Sarkisian has quieted all that noise and cockiness that some would come to understand and expect from a Texas team that was one game away from playing for a national title and won their conference the year before.
