Texas's defense clamps down

ULM's offense was stifled this game. Neither ULM's pass game nor its run game managed even 60 yards in this game against the Longhorns' stout defense. Texas also outgained ULM in the air and on the ground by a margin of no less than 150 yards.

Whether it was the starters or the younger players deeper down the depth chart, the Longhorns showed their tremendous depth and talent on the defensive side of the ball for yet another game early this regular season. Despite ULM bringing a solid ground game with some different motion concepts and bigger tight ends who can block and get down the seams, Texas was able to hold the Warhawks at bay on almost every drive.

Texas also showed its ability to back a team up near the opposing offense's own goal line. For the first time this season, the Longhorns forced a safety in the second half when Lefau exploded through the gap for a tackle for loss and two points.

Texas's defense has held all three of its opponents under four yards per play and under 300 total yards of offense at home this season. In this win over ULM, the Warhawks barely managed over 100 total yards of offense amid a barrage of pass rushers from the Longhorns and some great coverage from the linebackers and the secondary.

This effort for Texas can be really easily summed up by the Longhorns' margin of +19 on first downs while the defense held the Warhawks offense to just 2-of-12 on third down conversions. Texas's defense is rolling entering SEC play next weekend at home against Mississippi State.
