4 takeaways from Texas's dominant win over Michigan
Texas's defense dominates, wins turnover battle by a significant margin
For the second straight week, the Longhorns' defense looked very dominant at all three levels. Texas's defensive line was pushing around Michigan's offensive line and tight end blockers to set the tone in the trenches.
The linebackers and secondary were flying all over the place, making impressive tackles and defensive stops out in space and generating timely turnovers. Texas came up with multiple interceptions, a fumble recovery, and a turnover on downs to pretty much shut the door on any opportunity for Michigan to put up points on offense in the second half.
Texas's defense really bowed up when it needed to at critical junctures of this game. It limited Michigan to under 35 percent on third and fourth-down conversions. And the Wolverines didn't get in the end zone a single time in this game. That's not to mention the consistent pressure the Texas defensive front got on Michigan quarterback Davis Warren, which helped to force a couple of picks and negative plays from their offense.
Early interceptions from defensive backs Derek Williams Jr. and Andrew Mukuba set Texas up with advantageous field position on offense on multiple eventual scoring drives for the Longhorns.
The turnover sword saw multiple footballs piled onto it today, with the Longhorns winning the turnover battle against Michigan 3-0. This is the same Michigan team that led the nation in turnover margin last season (per CFB Stats).
Outside of garbage time possessions for the Wolverines, Texas held the Michigan offense to under 150 passing yards and just over three yards per carry defending the run.
