Texas is a bona fide national title contender

Another dominant victory for the Longhorns on the road against a top-10 foe in Michigan this weekend proves Sarkisian has this program exactly where he wants it to be in the inaugural season for the Longhorns in the SEC in 2024.

Top-10 victories over Alabama and Michigan on the road in the last two years goes to show that Sarkisian and the Longhorns are a premier program in college football.

Texas's defense looks completely rejuvenated this year, especially with its pass defense coming up huge in the first two weeks of this season. If you exclude garbage time stats, the Longhorns have allowed fewer than 150 passing yards combined in the wins over Colorado State and Michigan.

And outside of some advances down the field by the Michigan offense in garbage time late in the fourth quarter, the Longhorns were totally dominant against their passing game. Michigan's ground game also fell flat in this one, with under 100 rushing yards for the first time a game for the Wolverines since late last season against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Big Ten play.

It goes without saying that Texas's offense looks special with all the skill talent and Ewers in complete command of this side of the ball this year. The offensive line also looked really good in the trenches, passing a huge test against a Michigan defensive line that is chocked full of early-round future NFL Draft picks, including star defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham.

As long as Texas takes care of business in SEC play without too many slip ups, this win over Michigan on the road proves the Longhorns will not only stay in the thick of the Playoff conversation this season, but also be in range of a first-round bye if they keep this level of play up for the next few months.
