Trey Moore, EDGE

One of the most impactful portal additions for the Longhorns earlier this offseason on the defensive side of the ball was former UTSA Roadrunners redshirt junior edge rusher Trey Moore. The reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Year has gotten off to a tremendous start in his first fall camp as a member of the Longhorns' roster for 2024.

The versatility, explosion, and natural instincts and ability to find the football are all qualities that make Moore potentially one of the best hybrid outside linebacker/edge rushers in the SEC this fall. He's got an NFL future in front of him, assuming he lives up to the expectations for the Longhorns' defensive front in 2024.

And there aren't any reasons for me to believe he will disappoint given the start he's off to in fall practice and heading into the first scrimmage of preseason camp on Saturday.

Moore made this list not because of his limited production during his time at UTSA for the last three years, but because he has yet to show what he can do as a member of a defensive front as part of a P4 program.

If Moore's ability to turn heads for the coaching staff and his teammates in the first couple of weeks of fall practice wasn't enough to convince the Longhorns faithful that he's ready to star for this defense in 2024, take a look at his production at UTSA from the last two years. Moore is the only returning defender in FBS college football this year that is coming off back-to-back seasons of 15+ tackles for loss.

What could make Moore even better than we already think he can be for the Texas defense this fall is the fact that he'll be playing alongside sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. along this defensive front. Pete Kwiatkowski being able to maneuver Moore and Hill around in different ways to show different looks to opposing offenses in the pass rush and the box will cause a lot of havoc in the opposing team's backfield this fall.
