4 Texas football players who will blow up in 2024
Jaylon Guilbeau, DB
Junior defensive back Jaylon Guilbeau has easily been one of the most pleasant surprises of fall practice so far for the Longhorns. Since he finally got fully healthy back in spring ball, Guilbeau has started to really show what he can do to impact the Texas secondary while getting first-team reps in practice.
In his first two years at Texas, Guilbeau battled constant injuries, including one that caused him to miss the entire second half of his true freshman campaign in 2022.
Texas now has two fully healthy and proven upperclassmen at the star position, Guilbeau and senior Jahdae Barron, who they can rely on in a multitude of different situations to thrive in this defensive backfield this fall. Guilbeau and Barron are both built to hold up well in man-to-man pass coverage and have very high football IQs at defensive back.
Guilbeau is doing something that I didn't foresee coming into fall practice, taking the first-team reps on defense in individual and team drills from Barron. Since Barron is arguably Texas's best and most proven cover DB, Guilbeau has really pushed the coaching staff to find anyway they can to get him out on the field with the starters on defense this fall.
