Another top defensive back target for the Longhorns in the 2025 class who is officially visiting Austin this weekend is the touted four-star Missouri City (TX) Hightower safety Kade Phillips. The athletic and rangy 6-foot-1 and 180-pound defensive back from the Houston area is making his third visit to Austin since the start of the 2024 offseason starting June 21.

Texas is battling the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Baylor Bears in the race to land a commitment from Phillips this summer. But LSU looks to be Texas's primary competition in this recruitment after Phillips had a successful official visit to Baton Rouge last weekend.

Horns247 reports (paid content) that Texas A&M's chances in this recruitment for Phillips took a hit when they landed their fourth defensive back commitment in the 2025 class late last month.

LSU probably has at least a slight edge over Texas here. Phillips' relationship with LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond is a big factor as he narrows down his options early this summer.

Texas getting the final official visit with Phillips could be huge, though, since the blue-chip defensive back from Southeast Texas is expected to announce later this summer. This will be one of the most important official visits for Texas to check all the boxes among the top recruits on campus over the next 48 hours or so.
