Among the more underrated true freshmen who have stuck out for the Longhorns in the first half of fall practice on the offensive side of the ball is the first-year tight end, Washington.

In the first scrimmage of fall camp for the Longhorns last weekend, Washington made one of the nicest catches of the day on the aforementioned 15-yard touchdown pass from Owens. That was one of a few nice touchdown catches we've heard about in the first half of preseason camp from Washington in team drills and live-game/scrimmage settings.

The 6-foot-4 and 250-pound true freshman looks to be on a better-than-expected development curve during his first fall camp with the Longhorns this year. He's a big-bodied tight end who is coming along as a blocker this fall camp, and he's a big-time threat as a receiver already.

Washington has caught the attention of his teammates, specifically senior tight end Gunnar Helm, with his maturity and highlight-reel catches he's making early in preseason camp.

"He's coming along every day. He's going to be, like I said in the spring, he's going to be a beast one day. I think that if he just stays on the track that he's on, gets his steps down, continues to fine-tune his routes, he's going to be a force."

Something to watch for Washington in the second half of preseason camp will be the opportunity to contribute in a bigger role on the tight end depth chart. With senior tight end Juan Davis apparently cross-training at running back and the tight end positions in offense due to the plethora of running back injuries the Longhorns suffered in the last week or so of fall practice, Washington could take more of the third-team reps at the position entering the regular season which is a few weeks away from now.
