The running back that remains the top target on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class for RB coach Tashard Choice and the Longhorns this spring is Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei high-four-star Jordon Davison.

Davison told Lettermen Row in late January that the four schools at the top of his list early this offseason are Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Texas and Ohio State have long been considered the schools setting the pace in this recruitment. Davison's relationship with Choice and Texas's west coast connections on the recruiting trail are some of the biggest reasons why the Longhorns have been a constant among his top schools throughout the recruiting process.

A potential setback for Ohio State in this recruitment, though, is the recent departure of running backs coach Tony Alford. This weekend, Michigan announced the hiring of Alford as its next running backs coach in a rare move in this historic rivalry, which could hurt the Buckeyes on the recruiting trail.

Davison could be one of the casualties for the Buckeyes in the aftermath of Alford leaving for the same role at Michigan. It's worth watching to see what happens with the late-March unofficial visit that Davison had scheduled to Ohio State as it could be a good indication of the Buckeyes' standing in this recruitment in the wake of Alford's departure from the coaching staff.
