Continuing on with the theme of defensive back recruiting owning a major part of the recruiting headlines in the 2025 class for the Longhorns in late June, four-star safety Kade Phillips was a huge official visitor last weekend. The blue-chip defensive back from Missouri City (TX) Hightower High School was one of Texas's biggest official visitors from the defensive side of the ball in the 2025 class in the last few days.

Philips has been a major priority for Gideon and the Longhorns for this cycle throughout the offseason in the last six months. He's visited Texas multiple times since the start of the 2024 offseason, including his official visit to Austin from June 21-23.

Texas really knocked it out of the park with Phillips during his official visit last weekend. After it looked like the LSU Tigers had some momentum in this recruitment for Phillips after his official visit to Baton Rouge from June 14-16, Texas countered with a great visit of their own.

It sounds like Texas has at least a slight edge in the race to land a commitment from Phillips this summer. A decision is likely expected from Phillips within the next couple of weeks, probably during or just after July 4.
