In just over a week from now, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian will open up the 2024 regular season at home at DKR on Aug. 31 against Colorado State. Texas only has a handful more fall practices before the regular season kicks off.

Biggest winners for Texas football as fall camp comes to a close in the next week

There will also be one more scrimmage/walkthrough for the Longhorns this upcoming weekend before the end of training camp. The walkthrough scrimmage won't involve as much contact or intensity as the last two fall camp scrimmages the previous two weekends.

This will be more of a true walkthrough to help with game-planning and situational preparation for the Longhorns so that both sides of the ball are ready for live-game action in a couple of weeks.

At this point of preseason camp more than a few weeks in, the Longhorns mostly know how the two-deep depth chart will shake out on each side of the ball. There will be some last-minute position battles to work out in the last week or so of preseason camp. But we already know who the big risers were on the depth chart entering this season from fall camp.

Here are five of the biggest winners for the Longhorns who made names for themselves this fall camp for 2024.

Ty'anthony Smith, LB

True freshman Ty'anthony Smith was Texas's only linebacker addition out of high school in the 2024 recruiting class this offseason. He's proving to be a really good get for the Longhorns in this true freshman class, after he impressed the coaches and his teammates this fall camp over the last few weeks.

We've heard multiple practice and scrimmage reports discussing how Smith looks the part of someone who can contribute early at the linebacker position this fall. He's got very high football IQ and has shown great instincts in the ability to find the ball carrier and get them to the ground in the backfield and out in space.

Smith will have a very bright future for Texas's linebacker corps and he has a shot to make the two-deep depth chart at weakside backer entering this season.
