Texas is about to wrap up fall camp. Which players have stood out throughout fall practice up to this point almost a week from the regular season opener?

Juan Davis, TE

It's not like the rise of senior tight end Juan Davis in his fourth fall camp at Texas is something we couldn't have seen coming. For reference, he was mentioned by Texas special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks during the pre-fall camp coordinator press conferences in late July that Davis had impressed him with how good his performances were in practice and offseason workouts during the spring and summer.

What was surprising is the way Davis has been able to contribute in a multitude of ways and facets on the offensive side of the ball at the skill positions this fall camp. Davis has not only looked good in practice as a blocker and a receiver at tight end, but he's also been an effective H-back in that emergency running back role this fall.

After the injuries to sophomore running back CJ Baxter Jr. and true freshman Christian Clark, which have caused them to miss the entire 2024 season, Davis has emerged as that bigger back who can take key snaps in short-yardage packages and on the goal line.

At tight end, it sounds like Davis has earned himself a spot in the top three rotation in different two TE sets in live-game action this fall. I am very convinced that the coaching staff trusts Davis enough to be a willing and effective blocker at the tight end position, as well as a good athlete running routes when they need him to on offense.
