Per a report from Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle and Kirk Bohls on June 25, Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle is weighing his options regarding the Texas baseball job opening. Schlossnagle is reportedly expected to have a decision regarding the Texas job by the night of June 25.

This comes after Texas A&M was defeated the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers in the final of the College World Series by just one run on June 24. Schlossnagle was looking to lead the Aggies to their first baseball National Championship in program history, but fell one game shy in the three-game series against the Vols in Omaha early this week.

Schlossnagle reportedly met with the Texas A&M higher-ups early this week as they are working to convince him to stay in College Station.

It's been expected that Texas will make an announcement regarding their head coaching hire for the baseball program by the end of the week, potentially as soon as Wednesday, June 26.

Texas parted ways with head coach David Pierce after eight seasons with the program on June 24. Pierce led the Longhorns to three College World Series appearances and three Big 12 regular season titles in eight years. But the last three years saw the Longhorns program trending in the wrong direction upon the move to the SEC in 2025.

For what it's worth, D1Baseball managing editor Kendall Rogers threw his voice into the discussion regarding the Schlossnagle talks with Texas. He said that whenever a report like this one regarding the Schloss situation comes out to the public, it usually winds up with the coach leaving their current school.

Schlossnagle is widely regarded as one of the top head coaches in college baseball. He's appeared in the College World Series seven times, including Texas A&M's only two berths in Omaha in 2022 and 2024.
