Texas football's biggest positional need the coaching staff is tackling in the spring NCAA Transfer Portal window is defensive line. Texas is looking to add at least one impact defensive tackle to shore up depth along the front seven after losing its top two DLs to the NFL Draft this spring, senior T'Vondre Sweat and junior Byron Murphy II.

Texas football scheduled to host Arizona transfer DL Bill Norton for a visit this weekend

A few defensive tackles of note have entered the portal since the spring transfer window opened on April 16. The one to watch for the Longhorns among top defensive tackle targets in the portal this spring is former Arizona Wildcats senior transfer defensive lineman Bill Norton.

The 6-foot-6 and 325-pound Norton has proven experience playing over the ball and played for new Texas co-DC/LB coach Johnny Nansen at Arizona last season. He checks many boxes that the Longhorns are looking for out of an experienced and proven interior defensive lineman in the portal this spring.

Texas and defensive line coach Kenny Baker looks to have moved quickly to get Norton to campus for a visit in the next few days. On Texas Football's CJ Vogel reported on April 17 that Norton is expected to visit the Longhorns for the Orange-White spring football game at DKR on April 20.

Norton is the first portal visitor that the Longhorns have gotten on the books for a trip to Austin since the spring window opened this week. He probably won't be the last either.

Texas could be looking to add a punter via the portal to replace former grad transfer Ryan Saborn, who exhaused his eligibility this offseason. It's also not out of the question that Baker and the Longhorns look to add multiple transfer defensive tackles during the spring window if the fit is right.

The Longhorns have added one defensive tackle from the portal this offseason, former Arizona grad transfer Tia Savea. Nansen brought Savea with him from Arizona as a key portal addition at defensive line during the winter portal signing period.
