A top tight end transfer target for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian, former Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore Amari Niblack, has reportedly arrived on campus for a visit to Austin on Jan. 18. On3's Gerry Hamilton reported on Jan. 18 that Niblack arrived in Austin for his multi-day visit to Texas this afternoon.

Niblack officially entered the transfer portal on Jan. 17. Texas has emerged as the favorite to land Niblack's commitment in the portal roughly 24 hours after his name surfaced on the transfer market.

Two 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions were entered projecting Niblack's commitment to Texas in the portal in the last few hours.

Multiple On3 RPM picks were also logged on Jan. 18 projecting Niblack's commitment to the Longhorns.

Niblack could be Texas's top portal tight end target

This week, Texas has scheduled visits with two portal tight end targets, Niblack and former Stanford Cardinal senior Benjamin Yurosek. Jeff Banks and the Longhorns were presumed to be in a good spot to land one of these two highly sought-after tight end transfers.

But given recent events, it looks like Niblack has emerged as the top priority among portal tight ends for the Longhorns early this offseason.

The big 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Niblack broke onto the scene in 2023 as Alabama's top receiving tight end. He emerged as a serious downfield threat for the Tide last season while he registered a career-best 21 catches for 327 receiving yards, and four touchdowns.

Texas looking to stay red-hot with portal recruiting

Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff have caught fire recruiting in the transfer portal early this offseason. This week alone, the Longhorns have landed three highly regarded portal commitments from immediate impact transfers at various positions of need on both sides of the ball.

Texas has the highest average transfer ranking in this cycle, according to On3. The Longhorns have done a nice job upgrading the roster at positions of need with proven and impactful transfers.

Sarkisian has reloaded the receiving corps with three impact wideout transfers in this cycle. And he might not be done yet, with Texas emerging as the favorite to get Niblack late this week.
