Texas football hosted former San Jose State Spartans sophomore transfer cornerback Jay'Vion Cole for a multi-day official visit this weekend. Cole arrived in Austin for his official visit to Texas on May 2. The trip is just now wrapping up as I'm writing this article on the morning of May 4.

Texas football knocks it out of the park with SJSU transfer CB Jay'Vion Cole

Texas the first of two visits Cole is scheduled to take this week. He's also scheduled to visit head coach Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers starting May 7. We will see if that visit takes place or if Cole looks to shut down his recruitment in the coming days.

But it sounds like the Longhorns made a huge impression from the early feedback we've heard coming out of Cole's visit in the last 24 hours or so. Horns247 reported on May 3 (paid content) that Cole said the visit to Texas "was amazing" and that the "coaching staff was great".

The buzz surrounding this portal recruitment for the Longhorns is that Cole is what Texas is looking for regarding positional need at defensive back and culture fit in the locker room. Texas is also confident in their standing in this portal recruitment as the visit wraps up on Saturday afternoon.

Texas is reportedly "at the top of the pack" for Cole following the official visit to Austin late this week/weekend.

Cole is Texas's top priority target in the portal since the 45-day window for underclassmen to enter the transfer market closed earlier this week. Texas is looking to add a quality cornerback transfer from the portal who can replace what their losing at field corner after the departure of junior Terrance Brooks last week.

Texas likes what Cole brings to the table from a speed and productivity perspective. Not only was Cole one of the most effective corners in the Group of Five for the Spartans last season (ranking among the top 10 highest-graded G5 CBs in 2023) but he also brings 10.6-second 100-meter dash speed.
