Elite high-four-star Houston (TX) Bellaire small forward Shelton Henderson is one of Texas basketball's top in-state priorities in the class of 2025 this summer. Since Texas offered Henderson last fall, head coach Rodney Terry has remained in constant communication with the elite wing recruit.

Terry's relationship with Henderson goes way back before the Longhorns extended him a scholarship offer in late November 2023. Texas has been recruiting Henderson since Terry was an assistant coach here a few years ago.

Henderson's recruitment is entering a critical stretch early this fall. He's narrowed down his list of schools in consideration for his recruitment to just five or six as of late this summer. Of the five or six schools he's considering, including the LSU Tigers, Houston Cougars, Kansas Jayhawks, Duke Blue Devils, Louisville Cardinals, and Texas, three of them will receive official visits this fall.

On3's Jaime Shaw reported on July 18 that Henderson has scheduled official visits to see Louisville (Aug. 23), Texas (Sep. 27), and Duke (Oct. 4) late this summer and in the fall. Henderson said he wants to have all his visits wrapped up by October. He set a decision timeline for when he wants to have his mind made up by for November, around the Early Signing Period.

Henderson has already visited Texas once since the Longhorns offered him last fall when he visited the Moody Center in Austin for the Texas Tech game on Jan. 6.

Terry's relationship with Henderson is one of the biggest factors involved in the Longhorns having a realistic shot to win this recruitment for one of the top wing prospects in the nation in the 2025 class. Henderson likes the up-tempo style of play Terry's system emphasizes on the offensive end of the floor, and the scoring versatility of the guards and wings in the Texas head coach's lineup.

"Coach Terry gives them a lot of freedom. He lets his guards play, coming off the pick-and-roll. He lets his big guards get into the post and do some work on the block too. I really like how Coach Terry plays. He’s been recruiting me since I was a freshman or sophomore, so we have built a pretty good relationship and what they’ve built is really crazy to see."

Duke, Houston, and Texas are three schools that have the most momentum in this recruitment this summer for Henderson. The Blue Devils have formed a great connection with Henderson, thanks to his tight relationship with Duke associate head coach/assistant Jai Lucas.

Houston and Texas both offer the proximity to home advantage for Henderson, with both schools being in his home state. The Cougars are the closest to home for Henderson since he's a Houston native. But the Longhorns are also within a few hours drive for Henderson and his family from Houston to Austin.
