We have a big week ahead for Texas football recruiting, with multiple decisions upcoming on the trail for the 2025 class over the next five or six days. Texas is looking to build on its 2025 class, which now includes 16 commitments and ranks in the top 15 nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

Texas football can add multiple 2025 commitments in the next week

The next few weeks in general will see a plethora of top blue-chip recruits in the class of 2025 announcing before the start of their senior seasons. Texas is in play for many five-star recruits who are scheduled to announce before September arrives in a few weeks.

There's a good chance that head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns could be adding at least three or four more commitments to the 2025 class before the regular season kicks off at DKR on Aug. 31 against Colorado State. Texas can also erase any doubts that once loomed earlier this summer regarding whether Sarkisian and staff would be in play for another top five class nationally for this cycle.

Here's a list of every top recruit who is announcing in the upcoming week who has Texas on their list in the 2025 class.

Kaliq Lockett, WR

Decision date: Aug. 7

The highest-profile and most highly-rated recruit who is on Texas's radar that is announcing this week is the elite five-star Sachse (TX) wide receiver Kaliq Lockett. The top-20 ranked prospect nationally in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking is the first highly-anticipated wide receiver commitment for 2025 with the Longhorns involved late this summer, on Aug. 7.

Lockett will decide between a handful of finalists, including the Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas on Wednesday afternoon (1 p.m. CT).

All five of Lockett's finalist schools received official visits from him over the past few months.

Texas has a few advantages in this recruitment a couple of days before Lockett's announcement ceremony. First, Lockett loves his fit in Sarkisian's offense and the results he's produced at the wide receiver position in the last few years. Texas had three wideouts selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, including Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell in the first two rounds.

Also, Texas is the closest school to home for Lockett among his five finalists. Texas A&M is also close to home for the elite in-state wideout from the DFW Metroplex. But the Longhorns have held the edge over the Aggies among the big in-state schools for Lockett for a while now.

If Lockett announces for Texas on Aug. 7, he will be the first wide receiver commit in the Longhorns 2025 class.
