Former Texas football running back Derrian Brown has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to a report from Matt Zenits of 247Sports on April 2.
While Brown never played a game for the Longhorns due to medical reasons, he was on scholarship for a couple of years while he was recovering from a stroke he suffered late in his high school football career.
Ex-Texas football RB Derrian Brown enters the portal this spring
Brown was fortunate to have a chance to play football again after the stroke he suffered during his senior year at Buford High School in Buford, GA. He nearly made a remarkable recovery early in his collegiate career at Texas but was never quite able to clear all the medical hurdles necessary to get on the field in live-game action for the Longhorns.
Brown was on the roster as a scholarship player for the Longhorns for a couple of years in 2019 and 2020 under former Texas head coach Tom Herman. He worked out in limited stints while he recovered from various surgeries related to the medical issues he dealt with late in high school and in his first 18 months or so at Texas.
As a four-star recruit from Buford (GA), Brown signed with the Longhorns as the lone running back commit in the 2019 class. He ranked as the No. 12 running back nationally and the No. 23 prospect in Georgia in the 2019 class in the 247Sports Composite.
Brown was one of over a dozen blue-chip recruits that Herman and the Longhorns signed in a top-three-ranked class nationally in the 247Sports Composite in the 2019 cycle.
