Red-hot No. 2 Texas softball will put their undefeated 8-0 record to the test this weekend as they host the Lone Star Invitational at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.

Head coach Mike White and the Longhorns have arguably gotten off to the best start of any team in the nation early in the 2024 season. Texas has dominated the competition in its first eight games this season, including four wins over top 10 ranked opponents.

A big reason for the Longhorns' dominant start through the season's first eight games was the hot bats, led by sophomore All-Big 12 catcher Reese Atwood. The reigning All-Big 12 Freshman Team selection has a scorching hot bat early this season, with an insane OPS north of 2.000.

Atwood is tied for second in the nation in runs batted in (20), fifth in home runs (five), and fifth in batting average (.667). Kayden Henry and Atwood have sparked this Texas offense that has registered a nation-leading .429 team batting average.

Texas will face another ranked foe when it gets a rematch against the No. 13 Stanford Cardinal in the Lone Star Invitational on Feb. 24. The Longhorns defeated the Cardinal in last weekend's Shriners Children's Hospital Clearwater Invitational by a score of 9-2.

Atwood and the Longhorns open the Lone Star Invitational in Austin on Feb. 23 against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
