One of the top forwards available in the portal at this point of the offseason, former Vanderbilt Commodores and Notre Dame Fighting Irish sophomore Ven-Allen Lubin could hypothetically be an impactful guy were Texas to pursue him late this spring.

The 6-foot-8 and 225-pound forward from Orlando, FL, is the No. 22 forward in the portal in the On3 Industry Ranking. He has two years of eligibility remaining and is in the portal for the second time in as many offseasons.

Lubin is a lengthy and versatile forward who can score the basketball at the rim and from the mid-range. He's also a quality rebounder and a disruptive defender who can switch between defending the three and the four. Lubin ranked among the 10 best forwards in the SEC last season in blocks (26) and block percentage (4.0).

There are a couple of connections worth mentioning between Lubin and the Longhorns. Texas has already added one former Vanderbilt forward from the portal this spring, sophomore Malik Presley. Lubin was also scouted by Texas during his recruitment as a four-star prospect from Orlando Christian Prep (FL) in the 2022 class.

I haven't seen any reports mentioning Texas as one of the schools in pursuit of Lubin's services in the portal late this spring. But he could make sense as a hypothetical portal target for Texas given the positional need for the Longhorns and the Vanderbilt connection with his former teammate Presley.
