Three-seed Texas baseball and head coach David Pierce handily defeated the two-seed Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to set up a rematch with the No. 3 overall seed Texas A&M Aggies in the College Station Regional. Texas's bats showed up to play in the opening round win for Pierce's squad over the Cajuns on May 31.

Texas baseball can move within one win of supers with a victory over Texas A&M

This is the second straight year that Texas defeated Louisiana in the opening round game of their regional. Last year, the Longhorns knocked off the Cajuns in the opening round of the Coral Gables Regional by a score of 4-2.

Behind a fifth-inning grand slam from Jalin Flores, the Longhorns put up a dozen runs on Louisiana to come away with the 12-5 victory. Flores led the way for the Longhorns with a game-high four runs batted in, all coming with one swing on that top-of-the-fifth-inning grand slam.

That fifth inning for the Longhorns saw them break the game open, scoring the eventual game-winning run on a Jared Thomas base hit. Texas needed that fifth inning to get a comfortable lead after Louisiana originally held the 2-0 lead in the game's first two innings. The Longhorns scored seven runs in the top of the fifth.

Rylan Galvan, Will Gasparino, and Dee Kennedy, joined Flores among the Texas batters with multiple RBIs on the day in the win over Louisiana.

Texas gave starting pitcher Max Grubbs the necessary run support to get the decisive seven-run victory over the Cajuns to start the College Station Regional. Grubbs notched his sixth win of the season, despite giving up four earned runs and five hits in five innings on the mound.

Cade O'Hara and Andre Duplantier II shut things down out of the bullpen, allowing just one earned run in four innings to close out the win for the Longhorns.

After the convincing win over the Cajuns in the opening round of regionals, the Longhorns have a rivalry matchup set for the winners' bracket on June 1 against the one-seed Texas A&M. The Aggies advanced to the winners' bracket after an 8-0 shutout win in the opening round over four-seed Grambling on May 31.

The first pitch time for Texas vs. Texas A&M in the winners' bracket of the College Station Regional is set for 8 p.m. CT at Blue Bell Park on June 1.
