Oregon battling Texas for No. 1 2025 ATH Michael Terry III
Texas football has ascended into the top group of schools for the No. 1 athlete recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking since the spring. Five-star San Antonio (TX) Alamo Heights athlete Michael Terry III had Texas firmly in his top group of three schools once the staff extended him a scholarship offer during a spring visit to Austin.

A strong summer official visit experience to Texas further cemented the Longhorns' status as one of the top contenders in this recruitment entering the month of July.
The other two schools Terry had good official visits to this summer, the Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies, round out the top three for when he's ready to announce at some point likely during the fall. But who holds the edge in the race to land a commitment from Terry entering the next few months?
On Texas Football's CJ Vogel reported on July 8 (premium content) that Texas and Oregon are the two primary schools battling it out on the recruiting trail for Terry's commitment entering the fall.
Oregon and head coach Dan Lanning have been involved in many of the key recruitments Texas has prioritized in the state this summer. Lanning has been in consistent communication and is really pushing for Terry since the spring evaluation period.
The Ducks recently beat out the Longhorns for top-priority 2025 recruits, like Duncanville (TX) five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore and Sacramento (CA) Folsom four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma. We know that the Ducks won't make things easy in the slightest on the recruiting trail in Terry's recruitment entering the fall.
It also wouldn't be wise to count out the Aggies in this recruitment for Terry. Texas A&M has made Terry a big priority in the 2025 class since he officially visited College Station last month. At the moment, though, this decision is trending to end up coming down to Texas and Oregon for the top athlete recruit in this cycle.
