Multiple reports (including from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports) have indicated this weekend that Texas basketball will host former Oregon State Beavers sophomore guard transfer Jordan Pope for a visit on April 16.

Texas basketball hosting Oregon State transfer G Jordan Pope for a visit early next week

Texas is reportedly one of two schools in the state that Pope has scheduled visits to for next week. He'll also take a visit to College Station on April 18 to see the Texas A&M Aggies.

The 2022-23 Pac-12 All-Freshman Pope led the way for Oregon State's offense last season. He led the team in scoring (17.6 points per game) and assists (3.4 assists per game) in 2023-24.

Pope saw a solid improvement in his per-game numbers and shooting percentages year-over-year since his true freshman campaign in Corvallis. He shot 45 percent from the field, 37 percent from beyond the arc, and 88 percent from the charity stripe last season.

Since he entered the transfer portal earlier this week, Pope has been contacted by the Arizona Wildcats, Michigan Wolverines, North Carolina Tar Heels, Illinois Fighting Illini, Kansas Jayhawks, Villanova Wildcats, and Baylor Bears, among many other schools.

Pope has two years of eligibility remaining after spending the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Oregon State.

Texas targeting proven guards in the transfer portal this spring

Pope is one of two guards the Longhorns have already scheduled visits with in the portal early this offseason. This weekend, head coach Rodney Terry and the Longhorns host former Indiana State Sycamores redshirt junior guard Julian Larry for an official visit.

Texas is also pushing for former Harvard freshman transfer guard Malik Mack and former Wisconsin sophomore transfer guard AJ Storr in the portal during the spring window.

Since the dead period lifted for in-person visits on April 12, Terry and staff also host former Air Force sophomore transfer forward Rytis Petraitis and Indiana State redshirt junior forward Jayson Kent.
