Ryan Wingo is set to be one of the next men up for Steve Sarkisian’s wideout room as Texas becomes Wide Receiver University.

As Wingo prepares for his first season on the Longhorns’ roster, large expectations are looming over his head.

Pro Football Focus College recently released a ranking of the top-ten freshman receivers in the nation and placed Wingo at No. 8 on the list.

While earning a spot in the top ten is a massive nod to Wingo’s skill set, the freshman phenom deserves a much higher ranking.

In the 2024 class, Wingo was ranked as the No. 7 overall receiver according to 247Sports, and the No. 32 overall athlete.

On3 had Wingo as the No. 8 wideout but ranked the Longhorn as the No. 2 athlete out of Missouri in the class of 2024.

At 6-foot-1.5 and 210 pounds, Wingo already has the build of a collegiate receiver and he was consistently rated as a 5-star recruit, earning a rating of 96.70 or higher.

In the Longhorns’ spring game, Wingo scored an incredible 56-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Trey Owens.

Wingo’s touchdown in the spring game gave fans a taste of what’s to come for him and the Horns. He is currently projected to support veteran wide receivers Johntay Cook II and Isaiah Bond but still be a big-time contributor for Texas.

The young receiver’s speed is one of the biggest highlights of his player profile, running a 10.55 in the 100-meter dash and a 21.50 in the 200-meter dash during high school.

While PFF College gave Wingo well-deserved national attention by placing him in the top ten, he deserves a higher spot than No. 8 in the country.
