Potential Pac-12 targets we'd hate to see leave the Big 12
Utah
If there was a scenario where BYU was willing to discuss leaving the Big 12 this early after joining the conference to make a move to the Pac-12 in the near future, it would make sense for the Utah Utes to consider making the move with them.
It was only last year that Utah joined the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Colorado among the four schools that left the Pac-12 to join the Big 12. BYU also recently joined the Big 12 in 2023 after being an independent athletic program for around the past decade.
Assuming the Pac-12 continues down the path of trying to add teams from the Mountain West to the fold in the near future, the Utah State Aggies could also be a possible target for this round of conference expansion. In this hypothetical scenario where the Pac-12 is able to lure away Colorado and BYU from the Big 12, and add Utah State from the MWC, getting Utah in that quad would be an ideal scenario for the conference.
Utah was a member of the Pac-12 for over a dozen years before it jumped ship for the Big 12 in 2024. It was a member of the Mountain West, along with other current P4 schools like the TCU Horned Frogs and BYU, before joining the Pac-12 in the early 2010s.
It not only makes sense geographically for the Pac-12 to target schools in the Rockies like Utah, Colorado, BYU, and Utah State, but it could also bring relevant rivalries back into the fold in those two states.
