Predicting order of finish for each SEC football team in 2024 season
16. Vanderbilt
After improving the Vanderbilt Commodores to a decade-best of the 2020s five wins during the 2022 season, head coach Clark Lea's squad took a step back in 2023 going winless in SEC play and winning just two games out-of-conference.
New Mexico State transfer quarterback Diego Pavia will lead a Vanderbilt offense that is made up of multiple starters from the transfer portal this offseason. On defense, Lea reassumes the play calling duties after Vanderbilt ranked 129th in the FBS in scoring defense in 2023 (36.2 points per game allowed).
15. Arkansas
Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman is on one of the hottest seats of any bench boss in the SEC going into the 2024 season. Pittman needs the offense to bounce back after it ranked in the bottom half of the SEC last season in total offense and points per game. He turns over the play calling duties on offense to former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino for 2024.
14. Mississippi State
First-year head coach and former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby ushers in a new era of Mississippi State Bulldogs football in Starkville for the 2024 season. Lebby and the Bulldogs have to navigate the second-hardest schedule in all of college football this fall (according to ESPN).
Mississippi State will rely on a starting quarterback from the transfer portal and the Baylor Bears, senior Blake Shapen, to lead the offense.
13. South Carolina
In any other conference, the South Carolina Gamecocks and head coach Shane Beamer would probably be a top-half team in the projected final standings. But South Carolina will have to navigate another difficult schedule with a first-year starting quarterback in redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers.
