8. LSU

The LSU Tigers have a lot to replace on the offensive side of the ball regarding the talent that departed to the first round of the NFL Draft this past spring, including a Heisman winner at quarterback and two tremendous 1,000-yard receivers.

Head coach Brian Kelly's defense also has a lot of questions to answer after they ranked third from the bottom in the SEC in total and scoring defense in 2023.

7. Mizzou

This really shows the SEC's depth for this season in 2024 that each of the teams ranked in the top half of this projection for the end-of-season conference standings are all in the top 20 for both major preseason polls. The Mizzou Tigers are one of many teams expected to be in the mix for the conversation for the 12-team Playoff from the SEC this fall.

6. Texas A&M

Entering the first year under new head coach and former defensive coordinator Mike Elko, the Texas A&M Aggies will be looking to start the season right if it can reel in a huge win over the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Labor Day weekend. Texas A&M has the talent and the depth on each side of the ball to be very competitive in the SEC this fall.

It also helps that the Aggies get every ranked matchup they face this season in the SEC at home at Kyle Field, including the rivalries against the No. 4 Longhorns and No. 13 LSU in late October and November.

5. Tennessee

Tennessee is back in the conversation in the upper tier of teams in the SEC after head coach Josh Heupel led the Vols to back-to-back seasons with at least nine wins in 2022 and 2023. If redshirt freshman Nico Iamaleava can live up to the hype as a former five-star recruit in the 2023 class, the sky is the limit for the Vols this season.
