Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after DB Kade Phillips
The month of July on the recruiting trail for the class of 2025 has not gone as planned for the Texas football faithful. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have struck out on many key announcements that have come in the last couple of weeks, especially at wide receiver and the defensive line.
Where does Texas football look next for a 2025 commit after 4-Star DB Kade Phillips?
The good news that the Longhorns fans did receive on the recruiting trail so far this summer came from two key blue-chip recruits in the 2025 class on the defensive side of the ball. Last week, the Longhorns reeled in a commitment from the highly touted four-star Houston (TX) Alief Hastings edge rusher Smith Orogbo over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Oklahoma Sooners.
Texas also landed a commitment on July 6 from one of its top in-state defensive back priorities in the class of 2025 this summer, four-star Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Hightower safety Kade Phillips.
Getting commitments in the 2025 class from Orogbo and Phillips helps to take the sting out of missing out on some of these other key recruits early this summer.
Here's a prediction of the next 2025 recruit to commit to the Longhorns after Phillips jumped in the boat on July 6.
Nathan Tilmon, S
A decision for the Longhorns that could come any day now in the 2025 class is three-star Arlington (TX) Mansfield Timberview safety Nathan Tilmon. The speedy former SMU Mustangs defensive back commitment has been trending to Texas since he officially visited Austin a few weeks ago.
Texas is still considered to be the leader in the race to land a commitment from Tilmon over the TCU Horned Frogs and Utah Utes, with his decision timeline likely to be by mid-July.
