Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after DB Kade Phillips
Nick Townsend, TE
The biggest upcoming decision to watch in the next week or so for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the 2025 class is the gifted four-star Spring (TX) Dekaney tight end Nick Townsend. Texas is battling the Alabama Crimson Tide, USC Trojans, and Texas A&M Aggies on the recruiting trail in early July in this recruitment for Armstrong.
The big 6-foot-4 and 235-pound tight end and linebacker recruit from the Houston area was set to announce originally this week before the hurricane hit Houston this week. It now sounds like Townsend is set to commit at some point next week (likely by July 15).
Townsend is the top tight end priority for Jeff Banks and the Longhorns in the 2025 class after their other top targets at the position committed elsewhere earlier this summer, including four-stars Kiotti Armstrong (Texas A&M) and Kaleb Edwards (Alabama).
Horns247 reports (paid content) that Texas continues to set the pace in this recruitment, entering Townsend's mid-July decision date. It sounds like Texas is set up well to win this recruitment after Townsend had a successful official visit to Austin last month.
Expect Texas to be the decision when Townsend announces with his Spring (TX) Dekaney High School teammate, four-star wide receiver Tanook Hines, at some point early next week.
