Predicting Texas's next 2025 commit after DB Kade Phillips
Kelshaun Johnson, WR
Another Houston-area recruit who delayed his decision ceremony early this week due to Hurricane Beryl is the speedy four-star Hitchcock (TX) wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson. The 5-foot-11 and 165-pound speedster from Southeast Texas was originally scheduled to commit between two schools, Texas and Texas A&M, on July 8.
But the decision will now reportedly come from Johnson to decide between the Longhorns and Aggies during an announcement on July 10.
I think Texas A&M was going to be the heavy favorite to win this recruitment had Johnson announced on July 8. New Aggies head coach Mike Elko and wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins have had a lot of confidence to land Johnson in the last few weeks.
Texas A&M has promised Johnson the chance for more immediate playing time at Texas A&M than Texas has been able to offer him. But the Longhorns missing out on the sweepstakes for the elite five-star Duncanville (TX) wide receiver recruit Dakorien Moore to the Oregon Ducks a few days ago has led to the Texas staff getting back in communication with Johnson more often this week.
Johnson's decision being delayed a couple of more days means that the Longhorns could really make things interesting on Wednesday.
